Review on Clos Maggiore
'Clos Maggiore is the most romantic restaurant I've ever been to,' enthused one Mobile Food Guide user after visiting this alluring place less than a minute's walk from the buzz of Covent Garden's Piazza. Owner Paul Corrett has tried to create the feel of a country restaurant here, evoking the atmosphere of Provence or Tuscany in WC2.
The kitchen cooks 'fantastic seafood', according to another Guide user: expect anything from seared blue fin tuna niçoise to peasant-style roast cod with butter beans and chorizo. The Mediterranean-style menu also features dishes like risotto of Scottish girolles with sweetcorn and summer savory, blanquette of veal with spring vegetables and marjoram and roast rack of lamb, followed by classic desserts including crème brûlée and lemon soufflé.
Backing up the food is a stunning wine cellar running to 600 bins; the list currently holds the Wine Spectator Award for Excellence.
