Review on The Everest Bistro at The Manor Hotel
This impressive Georgian hotel makes quite an impression, with its striking white frontage set against the green backdrop of the Black Mountains. It stands on the outskirts of Crickhowell and is perennially popular as a country retreat.
Food is now centred on the contemporary, yellow-walled bistro, which overlooks an impressive escarpment and the Usk valley. Almost all the meat used in the kitchen comes from the owners' family farm a few miles down the road in Llangynidr and it shows up well in dishes such as fillet steak with broad bean and goats' cheese salad or confit leg of lamb served on mash with ratatouille.
Welsh produce also finds its way into other dishes including Hereford asparagus with hollandaise or roast Glaiser Farm duck breast with rhubarb and port sauce, while desserts could feature Bower Farm crème brûlée or lemon tart with blackcurrant sorbet.
