Review on The Swan Inn
Located in desirable Denham (within easy reach of the M25 and the M40), The Swan is a charming, double-fronted, wisteria-clad gastro pub - ideally placed if you're looking to temporarily escape the rat race or re-charge the batteries during a tiring journey.
Local, free-range and organic produce are used to good effect and the seasonal menu divides up into 'small plates' (popular with the ladies who lunch) and 'main meals'. One dish that has stayed on the menu from day one is oak-smoked bacon on bubble 'n' squeak with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
Otherwise, try Cajun-spiced soft-shell crab with dill mayonnaise, braised local rabbit with spring greens and char-grilled sweetcorn fritter or roast chicken supreme on courgette frittata with chorizo and smoked garlic jus. Char-grilled ribeye steaks and classic fish pie are also big sellers, the specials board changes every session and desserts might include chocolate honeycomb cheesecake or cinnamon-spiced pear tarte Tatin with maple syrup ice cream.
The wine list is a well-chosen collection of keenly priced all-European bottles, with everything offered by the glass.
