Review on Thai Dusit

One of a Midlands-based mini-chain of Thai restaurants offering genuinely authentic food in pleasing, relaxed surroundings. 'Dusit' translates as 'Buddhist paradise' and the dining room certainly tries to live up to its name with lots of native artefacts and waitresses in pretty national costume.

The menu includes all the now-familiar staples of the cuisine including satays, tom yum soup, red and green curries and pad thai noodles in addition to a few speciality dishes such as pla sam rod (deep-fried fish topped with onions, chillies and tamarind). Banquets offer decent value, and weekday set lunches are a snip for under a fiver. There are branches in Coventry and Kingswinford.

SPECIALITY DISHES

KANG PED YANG:
A delicious and traditional red Thai curry made with roast duck slices, coconut milk and pineapple.
KANG KEOW JAY:
The famous and highly recommended Thai green curry. Available with chicken, beef, mixed seafood or seasonal vegetables (shown).
PAD THAI:
A classic Thai noodles dish with chicken and topped with ground peanuts. Also available with beancurd.
PLA SAM ROD:
Deep fried fish, topped with onions, chillies and tamarind giving a slightly sweet and sour taste.

SOUPS

TOM YUM:
Traditional Thai hot and sour clear soup flavoured with lemon grass, fresh chillies, lime leaves and galinga root. With a choice of either prawn, chicken or mushroom.
POA NAM:
As TOM YUM but with mixed seafood.
TOM KHA GAI:
Similar in taste to TOM YUM but with a more distinct taste of galinga root and the addition of coconut milk to mellow the flavour of the chicken.

Clear soup with vegetables.

Chicken Satay. Marinated skewers of chicken grilled and served with peanut sauce and cucumber salad.
TOONG TONG.
Thai Golden Bags. Thin pastry skins filled with minced prawn and pork, deep fried and served with sweet chilli sauce.
GAI BAI TOEY.
Chicken marinated with coriander root, cracked black pepper and oyster sauce wrapped in pandan leaves and deep fried.
PO PIA JAY.
Thai Spring Rolls. Vegetarian spring rolls served with sweet chilli sauce.
TORD MON PLA.
The original and famous Thai Spicy Fish Cakes.

Thai Spring Roll with Prawn. King prawn wrapped in spring roll pastry, served with a sweet chilli sauce.
