Review on Grant MacNicol at the Castle

Dornoch Castle Hotel hit the headlines in 2000 when Madonna got married here, and it's also renowned as a wedding venue for those with a lower public profile. It occupies the shell of an historic Tudor castle (complete with an original stone tower), and stands directly opposite Dornoch's twelfth-century cathedral.

Menus showcases starters of carpaccio of salmon and scallops or confit duck and chestnut ravioli drizzled with warm plum sauce. Mains take up the baton, with anything from braised oxtail with parsnip and vanilla purιe to seared fillet of hake with cherry tomato and coriander relish. To finish, try sticky toffee pudding or honey and whisky crθme brϋlιe.

    Rude/Arogant manager

My Wife and I decided to go to Castle hotel Dornoch restaurant for a quiet romantic evening meal
for the start of 2019 as we have many years before, this time however the experience was
a disaster. (we're not the type to generally complain about things)
Just after we had ordered drinks at the bar a group of 12 noisy under ten year olds with adults
came in and promptly sat down and switched on their phones, my coat on the back of my seat was
knocked on the floor (previously our coats had been taken from us and hung up in another room)
Our order was taken and we were shown to our table (taking our coats with us) the meal was fine
but the din was terrible it was like eating in a school canteen after the first coarse we decided to
leave and asked for the cheque.
At the bar whilst paying the bill the Waitress asked if we'd enjoyed our meal and I said we hadn't due
to the noise, and why had such noise been allowed to continue in an upmarket restaurant. then I asked if
a reduction in the price could me made, she said she would fetch the restaurant manager.
What happened next really incensed my wife and I .. He flatly refused to give us any reduction whatsoever
and said the group of adults and children were spending over £8000 at the hotel and restaurant and nothing
could be done about it !!
This made us feel Insignificant to his establishment, his reply was total unacceptable to us and we promptly left
feeling very unwanted.. went and bought a sweet at the local convenience store. and sat in the car on the sea front.
Altogether a very upsetting experience and one we will not forget for a long time.
and reading other reviews its not the first time he's been rude to customers. He's certainly is not fit for the job.
He will, over time cost the Hotel dearly. Through his cavalier actions. We will not be returning to the establishment!.
