Review on Stower Grange
Set in a quiet residential neighbourhood five miles north-west of Norwich, this seventeenth-century country house looks quite beguiling with its ivy-clothed frontage and neatly trimmed grounds.
There are views of the garden from the tall windows of the elegantly turned out dining room, where guests can look forward to skilfully crafted modern food. The restaurant menu might open with black pudding and caramelised Worcester apples and balsamic dressing or salmon fishcake in Japanese breadcrumbs with coriander dipping sauce. Main courses could span everything from a Norfolk pork chop with bacon lardons and red wine jus to fillet of sea bass with braised fennel, white wine, tomato and dill sauce. Meals conclude with homemade desserts (crème brûlée with strawberries) or an 'assiette' of cheese. Many of the bottles on the wine list are sourced direct from French vineyards.
