Review on Faraday's Restaurant, Copthorne Hotel Merry Hill
In the heart of the Black Country, this branch of the international Copthorne chain occupies a prime site overlooking the swish Canal Marina, just a stroll from the prestigious Merry Hill shopping complex. The location makes its a popular destination for business, leisure and weddings alike.
Fine dining takes place in the light and airy Faradays Restaurant, which has the bonus of big, curving picture windows overlooking the boats and aquatic action in the marina. The kitchen delivers modern food with a strong European slant and a few exotic influences for good measure. Seared scallops with butternut squash purée and Barolo wine reduction is a typical starter, while main courses might range from seared fillet of sea bass with salade niçoise to 'two-way lamb' (involving a cannon and mini shepherd's pie) with celeriac purée and thyme jus. To finish, perhaps autumn fruit clafoutis with cherry ripple ice cream or lemon and honeycomb crème brûlée.
