Review on Blairscove House & Restaurant
Sitting proud on a promontory jutting out into Dunmanus Bay, Blairscove House enjoys one of the most stunning coastal locations in Cork. The 270-year-old Georgian country residence is surrounded by some four acres of lawns and sub-tropical gardens warmed by the Gulf Stream, and there are lovely views from the conservatory extension.
The lofty restaurant is high-beamed like a church, although paintings on exposed brick walls, twinkling chandeliers and a wood-burning grill testify to its current use. A grand piano stands in one corner and a stupendous buffet display immediately catches the eye.
Meals begin with a selection from the array of enticing starters, ahead of char-grilled steaks, breast of Skeaghanore duck with plum sauce, rack of lamb or pan-fried Dover sole with maitre d'hotel butter. To conclude, feast your eyes on the dessert display or try the Irish farmhouse cheeses. Self-catering accommodation is available in four adjacent apartments and a cottage.
