Review on The Restaurant at Macdonald Crutherland House
A renovated Georgian mansion set in 37 acres of landscaped grounds within easy driving distance of Glasgow is the setting for this luxury hotel (now part of the Macdonald group).
Prime Scottish produce forms the backbone of the menu, although the kitchen casts its net far and wide for ideas and inspiration. Potted rabbit and pheasant with fruit chutney or calf's liver with bacon, mash and sage jus are robustly homespun, while scallops with pancetta and rocket or rump of lamb with olive crushed potatoes conjure up echoes of the Med. Poached pear with butterscotch sauce is a typical dessert.
Back up comes in the shape of zingy cocktails, malt whiskies and a decent contemporary wine list.
