Review on Sa Tafona (Hotel La Posada del Marques)
Sa Tafona is the fine dining restaurant housed in La Posada del Marqués nestling in the hills above Espories, a beautiful 16th century building once owned by the Marquess of Verger that was converted into a luxurious hotel in 1983. The building has been sympathetically restored retaining much of the original architecture, with the restaurant occupying what was the old mill of the country house. During summer months guests can dine on their idyllic terrace with sensational views of the south of the Island to the Bay of Palma.
Chef Christian Denz holds sway in the kitchen and delivers a repertoire of stylish presented and attractive modern European dishes, based around sound local ingredients including herbs from their own garden. You might begin with beef carpaccio with truffle oil and parmesan or Mediterranean fish soup with saffron. Main courses take in fillet of grilled sea bass roasted with herbs and vegetables or carnivores will enjoy grilled Entrecote with rosemary potato on grilled vegetables. Bringing up the rear are desserts in the shape of carrot cake with cheese frosting and chocolate sauce or lemon sorbet with vodka or cava.
Accompanying the menu is a well conceived wine list from specially selected local vineyards, as well as offerings from the Spanish mainland and around the globe. The neighbouring Es Verger estate produces outstanding red wines which are well represented on the wine list.
