Review on The Olive Tree Restaurant
The Olive Tree is an award winning restaurant housed in Queens Court Hotel, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1840 it retains many of its original Georgian features, set on a leafy square a short walk from the city centre and Exeter Central Railway. The restaurant looks eminently chic with a stylish décor, glittering chandeliers and soft candlelight set the scene, with comfy black leather high backed chairs at crisp linen clad tables and walls adorned with Venetian masks.
Donning the whites in the kitchen is Head Chef Gerald Bucur who proposes a modern British menu with Mediterranean influences. Open your account with lobster ravioli rested on carrot and ginger puree garnished with bouillabaisse reduction and basil oil or a duo of West Country duck, home-cured duck served with confit duck beignets finished with orange and toasted walnut dressing. Follow on with a main course of peppered pork, seared fillet of pork served with ham hock terrine, button onions and apple sauce or seared filet of cod and smoked cod fishcake paired with chorizo salsa, broad beams and lemon weloute. Artfully displayed desserts close the show with assiette of chocolate, milk chocolate mousse with praline liquid centre, dark chocolate parfait and white chocolate and orange sorbet or for something more traditional there's apple pie and custard.
The hotel has 18 beautifully appointed rooms should you wish to stay over and visit the attractions in the historical city of Exeter and beyond.
