Review on Two Brothers Fish Restaurant
Leon and Tony Manzi's redoubtable fish restaurant has become something of a Finchley landmark since opening almost 20 years ago. Maritime blue paintwork and brass lettering announce the place, and piscine prints line the walls of the smart interior.
Supplies of fish arrive daily from from Billingsgate, oysters and mussels are flown in from Ireland while only the best Maris Piper potatoes are used for their legendary chips fried in groundnut oil. Cod, haddock, skate and rock are the staples, with halibut, mackerel and other species showing up on the specials board; also check out the fish soup, Arbroath Smokies and steamed salmon with hollandaise sauce.
Tartare sauce and mushy peas are the real thing and even the malt vinegar is proper stuff (not 'non-brewed condiment'). If you still have room, a few basic desserts like apple pie are on offer. The well-chosen, reasonably priced wine list includes Domaine du Grand Mayne from the brothers' own vineyard in the Côtes de Duras.
