Review on Lima
Lima opened its doors on Rathbone Place, a short stroll from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, a sleekly groomed restaurant showcasing Peruvian cuisine. The restaurant has a modern décor with leather banquettes set against simply laid wood tables and chairs, contemporary artwork that is available for sale adds a splash of colour and interest, with the large skylight flooding the room with natural light.
The restaurant is the creation of the Gonzalez brothers and acclaimed chef Virgilio Martinez who as well as working in some of the world's most prestigious kitchens, owns the Centrale Restaurante awarded the best restaurant in Peru in the latest edition of the "Summum Guide". Lima is also picking up its own awards, it was Time Out's 'Best Latin American Restaurant for 2012' and received a coveted Michelin star in the 2014 edition of the Guide.
The kitchen is committed to promoting sustainability, products are sourced from UK suppliers following the seasons, with some more unusual organic and wild ingredients imported direct from Peru's vast biodiversity. The menu kicks off in true style with a starter of sea bream ceviche, white tiger's milk, sweet onion skin and inka corn followed by a main course of confit of suckling pig, roasted Amazonian cashew, lentils and pear. Desserts continue the theme, in delicious combinations of ingredients with chanchamayo organic coffee ice cream, chancaca honey, coca leaf and olive oil and coconut powder or dulce de leche ice cream, beetroot emulsion and Amazonian maca root honey.
The wine list offers a good selection of champagnes and wines from all the major wine-making countries, with several options available by the glass, together with a well-crafted cocktail menu.
