Review on Tendido Cuatro
A younger sibling of Cambio de Tercio on Old Brompton Road, this animated Spanish place flies the flag with trademark red, yellow and black colour schemes, bold artwork and a menu that is inspired by the great tradition of Andalusian tapas bars. It also boasts an open frontage and a crowd-pleasing terrace looking out over the street action.
The open kitchen is dominated by a large grill and plancha (griddle) that is deployed for everything from spicy chorizo and baby lamb chops (served with piquillo peppers) to cuttlefish, prawns and razor clams. Familiar tapas staples such as Serrano ham croquetas, patatas bravas, and white asparagus in vinaigrette are bolstered by more intriguing offerings including caramelised foie gras with orange sauce and vegetable sprouts, crunchy fried Arzua cheese with tomato marmalade, and Asturian stew of white beans, chorizo and pancetta.
Spanish cheeses with quince jelly make a fine finale, or you might prefer something sweet - say caramelised Catalan custard, Spanish rice pudding spiced with cinnamon or a refreshing lemon sorbet with Cava. The prestigious all-Spanish wine list provides an oenophiles' tour through the country's vineyards.
