Review on The Heron's Cove
On the south-west tip of Ireland, just a short drive from Mizen Head (where the Fastnet Rock lighthouse illuminates the sky), Sue Hill's restaurant is a pure delight - especially when the weather is clement.
'Fresh fish and wine on the harbour' is the message, and the kitchen fulfils its promise with a marvellous selection of specialities including John Dory with caper butter, salmon with spinach cream sauce, and baked whole sea bass - not forgetting lobsters and generous seafood platters.
Away from the sea, expect organic and locally reared meat and game, from lamb cutlets with redcurrant sauce to breast of duck with ginger syrup. To finish, sticky toffee pudding and Russian cheesecake steal the show. An unusual 'Wine Rack' system means that guests can browse and make their own selection from an ever-changing assortment of interesting bottles. Accommodation available.
