Review on The Sir William Hotel
The traditions of 'innkeeping' are alive and well in this refurbished hotel in the heart of the Peak District. Mobile Food Guide users have been bowled over by the new Terrace Garden Restaurant, which offers 'exemplary' food and 'hearty portions without fuss' in a lovely setting with outstanding views over the lawned terrace across the valley towards Froggatt Edge.
There are plenty of traditional English staples on show, from braised rib of beef with parsley mash and toad-in-the-hole to beer-battered haddock with mushy peas, but the kitchen also turns its hand to gateau of Bury black pudding, roast garlic and bacon, penne with peppers and chilli, or salmon fillet with noodles, king prawns and red curry sauce. There are real ales in the bar (plus renowned pork pies), and the wine list is bolstered by some special 'hand-picked' bottles.
