Review on West Lodge Park, Mary Beale Restaurant
Owned and run by three generations of the Beale family, West Lodge Park has an auspicious history dating back to the time of Elizabeth I. It stands in stunning grounds and peaceful parkland (complete with an impressive arboretum) a short drive from the M25 and the outer reaches of the London underground network.
There are fine views of the garden from the windows of the recently refurbished restaurant now called The Mary Beale Restaurant and Terrace Bar. It takes it's name from Britain's first professional woman painter and many of her original works adorn the walls of the restaurant which now has a contemporary feel. The kitchen works to a modern British style menu, locally sourced where possible and you might commence with Shetland scallops pan seared with cumin scented parsnip purée followed by Denham Estate loin of venison, butternut squash, creamed potato, liquorice jus and game chips. While desserts tempt with the likes of poached pear, saffron bavarois and pinot noir ice cream or baked passion fruit tartlette with roasted pineapple jelly and blackcurrant sauce and there are well-chosen English and European cheeses to complete the picture.
