Review on Blue Strawberry Bistrot
A delightful old timbered building is the setting for this intimate village 'bistrot' situated three miles from Chelmsford. It may look understated from the front, but you'll quickly notice the beautifully maintained covered patio area and - once through the door - you'll find yourself in a grand Victorian-style conservatory complete with leather sofas.
The dining room reverts to the traditional rustic theme with exposed brick walls and weathered timbers, old etchings and prints on the walls, and lots of ornaments dotted around. There's even an open fire to warm the cockles.
Anglo French cooking (with a few oriental additions) is the order of the day, and the full carte might include fisherman's stew with saffron sauce, venison steak with Puy lentils, cabbage, bacon and onion casserole and baked chocolate tart with orange syrup, as well as calf's liver with bubble 'n' squeak and rhubarb and apple pie with custard. Fixed-price lunches and midweek evening menus are excellent value.
