Review on Bacco Restaurant & Bar
Bacco Restaurant & Bar located on Red Lion Street a short walk from High Holborn, takes its name from the ancient Roman god of wine and agriculture. The smart restaurant is easily found with its pretty displays of hanging baskets and flower boxes, situated directly opposite the pedestrian crossing. The large picture windows create a light and airy interior, with tables dressed in crisp linen napery on modern wood flooring and comfy leather seating.
The kitchen under the leadership of head chef Manuel Mattozzi sources the finest ingredients from Italy, as well as seasonal British free range organic produce for its classic Italian menu. A popular place for after work drinks or a leisurely meal where diners can either opt for the a la carte menu, or choose a series of sharing dishes from their Cicchetti menu. Typical starters on offer are their meatballs with spicy tomato sauce or maybe organic salmon, peach, beetroot and balsamico. Main courses follow on with risotto with saffron, peas and broad beans or succulent roasted pork belly, sauerkraut, pink lady and honey-mustard jus. To finish you could choose a traditional Italian tiramisù or vanilla panna cotta served with seasonal fruits.
There's a carefully chosen wine list, mostly from Italian regions originating from small wineries, local estates and family owned, to larger producers. During summer months there is a delightful courtyard to the rear of the restaurant for al fresco dining.
