Review on Knife and Cleaver
The Knife and Cleaver at Houghton Conquest, a 17th century country inn which has established itself as a restaurant with rooms is a charming and friendly place. The restaurant re-opened on the 23rd February 2012 with new owners after an extensive £500,000 refurbishment. Take a pre dinner drink on the terrace before being seated in the dining room, a large Victorian style conservatory which overlooks the gardens.
All fresh food is used on a seasonal basis and purchased from top quality suppliers. Typical starters that appear on the menu are a trio of seafood, crab meat, lemon scented crayfish tails, with sautéed king prawns or potted ham hock served with chef's own homemade piccalilli. Main courses take in slow braised belly of pork served with creamed mash, apple puree, jus and crackling or choose one of their fine steaks cooked on a Brasa griddle. There's an array of desserts including a classic sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce and clotted cream or passion fruit cheesecake with mango and passion fruit compote. The Knife and Cleaver offer a great selection of cask ales, delicious wines, speciality hot drinks and cocktails.
Don't drive home after a fine dinner at the Knife and Cleaver. Make use of one of the eight delightful self-contained rooms in the converted stable block.
