Review on Hotel Eilean Iarmain
A stunning waterside location complete with a little harbour and landing stage is just one of attributes of this hotel deep in ‘Gaelic country’. But there’s more: Eilean Iarmain also forms part of the Sir Iain Noble’s 23,000-acre Estate, and the hotel sits right next to the HQ of Gaelic Whiskies and an art gallery.
Dinner is a succession of elaborately crafted dishes along the lines of grilled seafood sausage on cucumber pickle with Glendale organic herb salad, calf’s liver with crisp bacon, thyme mousseline, fondant potato and a shallot and sherry jus, and warm chocolate and Armagnac tart with cinnamon cream. Backing up the food is Sir Iain and Lady Noble’s personally chosen, award-winning wine list.
There’s generally lots of action in the An Praban Bar, where the drink flows and music often plays. If you want sustenance, the menu offers things like bowls of Cullen Skink, local crab cakes, herrings in oatmeal and grilled steaks.
