Review on Frederick's Restaurant
An ultra-chic old stager among Islington's restaurants, Frederick's Restaurant is tucked away in the famous antiques quarter just off the bustle of Upper Street. Eat in the splendid Garden Room with its spectacular vaulted glass roof, or outside under parasols when the weather allows.
The kitchen produces accessible contemporary dishes with a European accent. Typical starters might include foie gras and duck confit terrine or dressed crab with prawns, guacamole, cos lettuce and toast. Main courses could range from classic osso buco and tournedos Rossini to grilled sea bream fillet with creamed sprouts and pancetta or lamb shank with crushed new potatoes, roasted onions and minted peas, while puddings are things like red fruit Knickerbocker Glory or banana cheesecake with cappuccino ice cream. The 200-bin wine list combines some of the best new discoveries with a strong showing of classic French names; there are free tastings on the last Thursday of each month.
A daily pre-theatre menu is available from 5.45 to 7pm and a special children's menu is offered for Saturday lunch (although special deals can also be arranged at other times).
