Review on Salty Dog Bar & Bistro
The Salty Dog Bar & Bistro opened its doors in 1998, owned by husband and wife team Damon and Natalie Duffy, it's set in the heart of picturesque St Aubin, in a pretty courtyard overlooking the harbour. The restaurant has a relaxed vibe, decorated in a nautical tone with shells and driftwood and colourful Caribbean prints adorning the walls.
The kitchen is committed to using fresh local ingredients for a menu that roams far and wide, showcasing imaginative cooking with a focus on robust flavours. Why not start with their famous Salty Dog king prawns “Pana”, oyster sauce, garlic and black bean sauce, sizzling hot pan and squeeze of lime or maybe the duck liver parfait, fig and Armagnac jam on toasted brioche dressing. For a main course there's some excellent cuts of steak, or if you fancy something a little bit more spicy there's Royal Thai braised duck curry with green beans and Snow peas served with Jasmine rice and naan bread. To conclude there are some delicious desserts in the shape of a gooey Jersey black butter and banana toffee pudding paired with home made clotted cream ice cream or chocolate and peanut butter cheesecake and salted caramel.
There's an excellent wine list to complement the food, available by the bottle, carafe and glass together with a zingy cocktail menu. Al fresco dining is a big draw during the summer months, and if it's a little chilly there are patio heaters and blankets to keep you cosy.
