Review on Corner 5 Restaurant
Nestling in Box End Park in the Bedford village of Kempston, the Corner 5 Restaurant has a lakeside setting in a stunning contemporary, timber-framed building. Owned and run by a local farming family, the one hundred acre site incorporates not only a fine dining restaurant and bar, but also premium water ski and wakeboarding facilities. The restaurant has panoramic floor to ceiling windows, which can be flung open during summer months onto the decked terrace, to take in all the dynamic action on the water.
Menus change with the seasons and the kitchen places great emphasis on fresh quality ingredients from trusted local suppliers. You might begin with king prawn Pil Pil, a classic Spanish dish consisting of fresh king prawns cooked in a garlic, paprika and parsley butter sauce, finished with fresh chillies and yoghurt, served with crusty bread and fresh salad leaves. Main courses usher in Madeira slow braised locally reared pork belly paired with sesame prawns rissoles, seasonal vegetables and Dauphinoise potato with a Madeira jus or for fish lovers there's Swordfish steak served on a lemon and summer vegetable stir fry with fresh crayfish tails, mango, tomato and red onion chutney. Desserts are prettily displayed in the shape of lemon baked Alaska, soft Genoise sponge topped with a lemon sorbet, encased in hot baked fluffy meringue with fresh coulis or maybe a cinnamon infused apple crumble accompanied by raspberry sorbet and crème anglaise.
The excellent wine list offers some lovely choices by the glass and the cellar is stocked with a wide choice that won't break the bank. The lounge bar with its cosy log fire is an inviting place to indulge in a glass of wine or a pint of real ale during the chilly winter.
