Review on P F McCarthy's
Established way back in 1913, this town bar and restaurant has seen many changes over the years, but is currently thriving as PF's. It's enthusiastically run by Paul and Breda Walsh, who have transformed the place into an all-day venue with a reputation for robust home-cooked food.
Proceedings kick off with late breakfast/brunch, which features a huge range of heartwarming dishes from pancakes, toasted bagels and French toast to the 'full Irish'. Lunch is equally varied, taking in local sausages ('made 22 strides from our front door'), Kenmare Bay seafood chowder, salads, steak sandwiches and more besides.
Dinner is a more upmarket affair that might open with grilled goats' cheese and slow-roast figs with raspberry balsamic reduction or confit of duck roulade with dried fruit compote ahead of char-grilled venison with lentils and whiskey cream sauce, Irish stew and a choice of fish specials. To finish, try apple charlotte.
