Review on Kenmore Hotel, The Taymouth Restaurant
Widely touted as 'Scotland's oldest inn', the Kenmore was built in 1572 and enjoys a lovely setting right by the banks of the River Tay. Robbie Burns was inspired to scribble some verses on the chimney breast of what is now the traditional Poet's Bar, although there's a more contemporary feel to proceedings in the stylishly appointed Taymouth Restaurant.
Stunning river views are a bonus in the dining room, where the menu offers a mix of Scottish favourites and European staple cooked on the Inka Grill. Expect the likes of Cullen skink followed by salmon fillet stuffed with whisky-laced haggis soufflé, breast of duckling with lemongrass and honey sauce or beef fillet with whisky jus. For dessert, perhaps go for baked rice pudding with pineapple compote or raspberry and Glayva crème brûlée.
