Review on The Salusbury
The twin roles of 'pub' and 'dining room' are clearly spelled out in this double-fronted hostelry on a busy street north of Queens Park tube station. The 'pub' to the left gets packed with drinkers out for a good time, while the eating area is all wooden floors with a few oriental prints on the walls and a hotch-potch of tables and chairs.
Rustic, peasant-style Italian cooking is the kitchen's avowed aim, so you can expect big flavoured starters in the shape of borlotti bean and home-made sausage soup or pappardelle served with duck ragoût to start, before main courses showing a keen attention to carefully sourced English ingredients – Gloucester Old Spot pork, Welsh leg of lamb, Scottish ribeye steak for example. Desserts return to the Italian theme with pannacotta and raspberries or Vin Santo with cantuccini. The 100-strong wine list scours the globe for good value and quality.
