Review on Basil's Grill, The Green Hotel
This converted eighteenth-century coaching inn boasts two highly rated championship golf courses in beautiful parkland bordering Loch Leven. It's a personally run affair set in landscaped grounds just five minutes from the centre of Kinross.
Formal evening meals are served in Basil's Grill - an airy, contemporary dining room bedecked with modern artworks, where visitors can look forward to food with a lot of modern accents. Escabèche of sea bass with Pernod-cured fennel and shallot salad is a lively starter, ahead of oven-baked cod with saffron and mussel broth or loin of venison with cranberry tea jus. Finish off with layered sesame brittle, orange mousseline and candied citrus fruit.
Light lunches and evening meals are also available in Jock's Bar, where the menu works its way through burgers, baguettes, pizzas and the likes of braised lamb shank, Arbroath smokie hotpot and chicken Caesar salad.
