Review on Bar Boulud
Renowned Michelin star chef Daniel Boulud has opened a sister restaurant to his New York based French inspired bistro, called Bar Boulud in Knightsbridge's Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel. The restaurant has its own entrance and is located in the basement of the hotel, designed by Adam Tihany it features a modern open kitchen, vaulted ceilings, stained oak tables and burgundy red leather banquettes, with wine inspired pictures adorning the walls.
The kitchen showcases a seasonal menu of small plates, classic French bistro fare, sharing platters of charcuterie, New York style burgers and a selection of sausages. You could choose to start with Dorset crab salad, apple gelée celeriac remoulade, herb salad, coriander tuile followed by a classic coq au vin, red wine braised chicken legs, lardons, mushrooms, onions and spätzle. Tempting desserts are on offer, gâteau chocolat-passion, jivara milk chocolate mousse, caramelized rice-pop and passion fruit sorbet or coupe mont blanc, pink lady apple-tonka compote, chestnut ice cream and chantilly muscovado sugar crisp, as well as an excellent cheese selection.
The wine list makes for enticing reading with a 2001 Burgundy on offer for a bank-breaking £13,000. The atmosphere is welcoming and buzzy and staff are friendly and efficient.
