There are delightful views of the Malvern Hills from the extensive grounds of this carefully tended, red-brick Georgian country house. It stands a short drive from Ledbury and now serves as a boutique hotel providing all the relaxed grace of country living and fine dining in chic, gentrified surroundings.
The Verzon provides several options, including a stylish bar/brasserie and a more traditional dining room decorated in warm tones. Ingredients from near and far show up on the menu, which might open with crispy leg of Madgett's Farm duck with apple and hazelnut salad or seared Scottish scallops with parsnip and vanilla purée. Main courses are mostly in the classic mould of roast John Dory with samphire, garlic mash and red wine sauce, lamb 'three ways' with ratatouille, and whole Cornish lobster with Café de Paris butter and French fried onions, while desserts might feature iced coffee parfait with a warm cinnamon doughnut.
