Review on Chez Mal Brasserie at Malmaison
An eye-catching contemporary glass fireplace is the centrepiece of this super-cosy but super-stylish brasserie in the Malmaison hotel. A vaulted ceiling and sumptuous leather booths add a touch of class and the mood is casual.
Menus offer modern brasserie-style dishes along the lines of seared fillet of beef with rocket and artichoke salad, then roast fillet of John Dory with oxtail risotto, asparagus, celery velouté and red wine glaze or roast duck breast with caramelised carrot purée, pancetta, broad beans and shallot jus.
If you fancy something simpler, there might also be moules marinière or the Mal burger with homemade relish and fries, while desserts could range from vanilla ice cream with hot Valrhona chocolate sauce to pineapple tarte Tatin with rum and raisin syrup.
The setting – a dramatic building on the banks of the River Aire, close to the heart of the business and shopping district – is a bonus.
