Review on The Kings Head
Lying on the borders of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire in the picturesque village of Ivinghoe, the ivy-clad King's Head is set in a Grade II listed building that can trace its roots back to the 16th century. Inside the interior wears its history well, with oak beams, cosy log fires, antique furniture and original artwork adorning the walls.
The kitchen is under the leadership of one of the three owners Jonathon O'Keeffe, who showcases imaginative cooking making excellent use of first-class seasonal and local produce. The kitchen delivers a raft of tempting ideas which have made it a crowd-puller, witness sautéed scallops, maple syrup and bacon, cauliflower purée, apple and almond granola or foie gras and chicken liver parfait, caramelised onion and thyme amongst the starters. Main courses usher in roasted fillet of halibut, parsley purée, asparagus and roasted shallot cep sauce or from the land there's crispy pork belly, caramelised red onion tart, celeriac purée, Savoy cabbage, walnut and sultana pain perdu. To finish diners can enjoy the spectacle of crepes Suzettes flambéed at your table with Cognac, Grand Marnier and Cointreau, or maybe choose bread and butter pudding caramelised pear and almonds paired with vanilla pod custard.
