Review on Mckenzie's Restaurant
Mckenzie's is one of the leading lights on the Staffordshire dining scene, located on the first floor of Lichfield's beautiful old Corn Exchange building. It was opened in November 2014 by experienced restaurateur Mark McKenzie Maltby and it quickly became a very popular place, noted for its convivial atmosphere, with affable staff. A gallery lounge area is ideal for a break from shopping with a relaxing cup of tea or coffee, while the main restaurant offers a spacious layout with original 19th century features including oak beams.
The kitchen affords an all day eating experience with flexibility as its hallmark, with a focus on premium produce, meat is sourced from royal warrant holders, Aubrey Allen, fish comes from Sands Fish Merchants and their chickens are supplied by the award winning Robert Caldecott.
Amongst the starters look for Scottish smoked salmon served on Italian style bread with a chilli, mint and lemon dressing or chicken liver pâté paired with Tracklemsents country garden chutney and fresh bread. When it comes to main courses there's steaks, pastas, burgers or dishes like grilled swordfish steak with new potatoes and grilled Mediterranean vegetables or an 8oz gammon steak with grilled pineapple, fried egg and McKenzie's chips. To finish enjoy Griffith Jones bread and butter pudding and ice cream or an orange mascarpone cream served with orange segments.
