Review on Livingston's Restaurant
A perfect location just off the main street and set in the shadows of Linlithgow Palace, you can catch a glimpse of the Loch from the conservatory window, across the neat garden and through the trees. Ronald and Christine Livingston started this family run restaurant a dozen or so years ago; son Derek now takes care of things front of house while the kitchen deals in modern Scottish cuisine prepared from the vast larder of produce the country has to offer.
Marbled foie gras and quail terrine with wild bramble and port jelly is a typical starter followed perhaps by red onion and goats cheese tart-tatin fresh herb salad, thyme and red wine sauce. Other options worth considering are Livingston's cottage pie finished under the grill with a beef jus or saddle of Highland venison, parsnip tuilles, goose fat fondant with wild bramble and red wine jus.
Old favourites like crème brulee or banana tart-tatin feature among the desserts while the wine list takes a global tour without breaking the bank.
