Review on La Collina @ The George Inn
A little slice of Italy in rural Buckinghamshire, just six miles south of Milton Keynes, the George Inn combines the virtues of an English village pub with a rustic trattoria. Open fires warm the place on chilly days and there's a lovely conservatory dining room complete with a tented ceiling for fine-weather meals; otherwise take advantage of the garden.
The full restaurant menu covers al the usual bases, from antipasti platters for sharing to chicken milanese, tagliatelle carbonara and herb-crusted pork escalope stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, basil and Mozzarella. For dessert, the choice extends to tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding and warm Italian apple pie.
Light bar lunches provide anything from sandwiches and Brickhill bangers and mash to hot seafood platters and rib-eye steak; there's also a separate menu devoted to pasta (anything from ravioli porcini to linguine with tiger prawns). The food is backed by a decent list of drinkable wines - in addition to hand-pulled beers.
