Review on The Little Haven Hotel, The Boardwalk
Situated at the 'Gateway of the River Tyne', this stylish purpose-built hotel boasts extensive views of the busy waterway and Little Haven beach, but is only 15 minutes drive from Newcastle and Sunderland city centres.
The Boardwalk café/bar and restaurant occupies a beautiful conservatory with great views, and there are tables outside in summer. During the day, you can get light snacks, toasties, jacket potatoes, baguettes and the like, but it pays to chill out with the full works in the evening.
Menus open with a list of starters covering everything from smoked salmon parcels with toasted brioche to a warm salad of grilled black pudding with poached egg and balsamic reduction. A refreshing sorbet comes next, before multi-national main courses like crispy king prawns with egg noodles, venison sausages and mash or pot-roast lamb shank with garlic and mint jus, plus pasta dishes and steaks with all manner of sauces. Rounding off proceedings are syrupy crêpes, cheesecakes and other desserts like banoffi torte.
