Review on Delifonseca
Multi-award winning Delifonseca located in Liverpool's Brunswick Dock picked up another award in 2013 when it was crowned The Good Food Guide Readers' Restaurant of the Year. With its older sibling in the centre of Town on Stanley Street, the Dockside branch is a mile south of the city centre opposite the Renault Garage. The restaurants with their combined delicatessens are owned by Candice Fonseca and take their name from the word 'deli' and her surname Fonseca.
Daytime sees the hustle and bustle of breakfasts and lunches, either inside the restaurant or outside on their covered terrace, whilst during the evening the ambience changes with soft lighting and flickering candles creating a more intimate dining room.
The kitchen features a daily changing blackboard menu of about 12 main courses using seasonal ingredients of the highest quality and known provenance. Kick off with duck breast, puy lentil and spinach terrine with dressed leaves, crostini and a beetroot and horseradish relish, before a main course of slow roasted Cumbrian rose veal rolled and stuffed with soft herbs with a rich tomato and fennel stew, roasted root vegetables and a rich jus or maybe fillets of sea bass with parsnip and vanilla puree, wilted spinach and a light bourguignon sauce. Desserts conjure up some lively modern flavours, as in melt in the middle chocolate mousse with hazelnut praline and biscuits or orange and white chocolate pannacotta with homemade shortbread.
