A slick recent arrival on the Liverpool scene right in the heart of the city's Chinatown, Mei Mei is earning quite a reputation for its freshly prepared, authentic dim sum.

If you are puzzled by the names, take a look at the photographs on the menu or ask one of the friendly waiters for some help. Steamed siu mai dumplings, char sui buns, deep-fried crispy wun tuns, slithery white scallop cheung fun and pieces of turnip cake are the kind of things to expect.

Dishes from the main menu are much more familiar - sweet-and-sour chicken, stir-fried beef with cashews and so forth. The restaurant is a capacious, brightly lit room on two levels, with a dramatic curved ceiling and plenty of room between big round tables.
