Review on The Metropole, Radnor & Miles Restaurant
Owned and run by the Baird-Murray family for more than a century, this grand Victorian edifice in the centre of the spa town of Llandrindod Wells is a grand tourist and business destination famous for hosting vintage car rallies and other social events.
Formal meals are served in the Radnor & Miles Restaurant - a swish dining room with high-backed leather chairs and contemporary furnishings. Fixed-price dinners follow the modern British path, kicking off with the likes of home-cured bresaola with Pant Ysgawn goats' cheese and watercress pannacotta, ahead of seared sewin with venus clams, courgettes and red wine sauce or a duo of Beulah lamb confit with cassoulet, sweet potato and lemon thyme jus. For afters, perhaps marmalade bread-and-butter pudding with Celtic Crunch ice cream.
Casual meals are also served throughout the day in Spencers Brasserie & Bar, where the menu ranges from wok-fried Clonakilty black pudding with chorizo and Pembroke potatoes to giant cod in Felinfoel ale batter.
