Review on St Tudno Hotel, The Terrace
Martin and Janette Bland have owned, nurtured and developed this Victorian hotel on Llandudno promenade since 1972 and over the years have made it very much their own.
Their latest improvement is the refurbished Terrace Restaurant, which has been given an Italianate feel with rich fabrics, chandeliers hung from tented ceilings and murals of Lake Como running the length of the dining room.
The kitchen works to an eclectic seasonal repertoire that might begin with tarragon and scallop tortellini with pea shoots and langoustine dressing or goats' cheese crème brûlée with spice apple chutney. To follow, you can expect a 'composition' of Welsh lamb with rosemary pannacotta or steamed salmon teriyaki with local crab boudin and vermouth sauce.
Desserts range from mango meringue pie with iced coconut parfait to hot chocolate soufflé with chocolate truffle and raspberry compote. The elegant, 230-bin wine list is the product of years of tasting and experimentation, with pages of classics and curiosities plus legions of half-bottles.
