Review on The Lodge on Loch Lomond, Colquhoun's
Two US presidents have been among the visitors attracted to this hotel in a tiny village on the shores of Loch Lomond. The lodge-style Colquhoun's Restaurant (named after owner Niall Colquhoun) is an open-plan, timber-clad room with uninterrupted views of the loch.
The regularly changing menu focuses on Scottish produce, from Shetland mussels to Glen Fyne beef. Lobster ravioli and roasted vegetables with herb crostini is a typical starter, alongside haggis fritters with champ potatoes and turnip fondant. Among main courses, roast saddle of wild venison with red cabbage, black pudding and dauphinoise potato is a signature dish, or you might try the special Lodge fish stew flavoured with saffron and fennel. Finish with orange tart with crisp chocolate and orange sorbet or strawberry cappuccino with shortbread biscuits.
