Review on New Samsi
It may bill itself as New Samsi, but this popular venue has been around since 1993 and has established itself as one of the most reliable Japanese joints in Manchester. It operates on two levels, with Samsi Express offering casual eating and a deli/supermarket in the basement, and the bustling main restaurant on the ground floor.
The layout is user-friendly, colourful and casual, and the lengthy menu offers just about style of classic Japanese cuisine from tempura to teriyaki, via zensai appetisers, breadcrumbed katsu, donburi rice assemblages and chilli-spiced grilled skewers of meat, vegetables and seafood. Sushi is also a big favourite, and Samsi was one of the first places to introduce smoked salmon sushi into the repertoire.
Weekday lunches focus on bento boxes and all-you-can eat set menus, while Sunday brings a buffet. The original branch Izakaya Samsi (Little Samsi) is at 521 Wilmslow Road, Withington, Greater Manchester M20.
