Review on The Oxnoble
The Oxnoble is a venue with a dual identity: it's part city-centre dining pub/bar/brasserie and part socialising local watering hole (Sunday night is quiz night). That said, it looks the part and does the business - whichever hat it chooses to wear.
You might detect a note of re-born Lancashire about tarte Tatin of Bury black and white puddings with roasted baby beetroot dressing or oxtail soup topped with steak and kidney dumplings, but the rest of the menu zooms off to faraway lands. There are stopovers in Spain for char-grilled chicken piri-piri with patas bravas, chorizo and tomato sauce, and Italy for fresh crab linguine with a Parmesan and basil crust, while curried belly pork with shiitake mushrooms, Chinese sauce and wok-fried pak choi comes straight out of the Oriental melting pot.
Desserts bring it all back home for baked egg custard with Cornish clotted cream, and hot 'gooey' chocolate pud with white chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce.
