Review on Coya
Coya is housed in a smart Grade II listed Georgian building on the borders of Mayfair, overlooking Green Park. It is the latest enterprise from restaurateur Arjum Waney, co founder of Roka and Zuma, celebrating Latin American culture with contemporary Peruvian cuisine. The interiors have been designed by David D'Almada featuring antique furniture and artefacts sourced from South America. A member's club and bar is located on the ground floor, with a 100-seater restaurant open to the public in the basement.
The main dining room is surrounded by a central Ceviche Bar overlooking an open charcoal grill, where you can watch all the action while the chefs prepare your food. The kitchen is under the leadership of ex-Zaika chef Sanjay Dwivedi, who travelled extensively in South America for inspiration for his inventive menu.
Typical offerings from the Ceviche menu include sea bass, red onions, sweet potato, and white corn or courgettes, shiitake, mint and garlic chips. Main courses usher in Lamb chops with crushed aubergines or from the Josper grill tiger prawns and coriander. While desserts could encompass everything from Arabica parfait with Zacapa poached pear, Quinoa, kiwicha, Zacapa 23 year rum, chocolate milk cremoso to Fortunato fondant with roasted white chocolate ice cream, chocolate, almond, coconut biscuit.
Coya specialises in bespoke pisco fusions, with over 40 tequilas on offer together with an extensive rum list and a well-thought out wine list. The venue will also host live Peruvian bands and Dj's playing a variety of music genres.
