Review on No 5 Social
Riding high on the success of Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social, acclaimed chef Jason Atherton opened Little Social in March 2013, but in May 2019 relaunched the restaurant as No.5 Social. Located just across the road from its sibling, the restaurant will be under the leadership of Executive Chef Kostas Papathanasiou, who during his career has worked at a number of stellar restaurants including The Fat Duck in Bray and The Ledbury in Notting Hill.
The kitchen will focus on British cuisine that will follow the seasons, working closely with trusted producers to deliver the freshest of ingredients. Among the repertoire of starters you might find Lake District bavette steak tartare, hazelnut butter, juniper cream and crispy kale or Heritage white asparagus, confit red prawns and bonito. When it comes to main courses there's roasted line caught Cornish cod, Morecambe Bay brown shrimp mayo, fennel salad and pomme purée or from the land roasted Herdwick lamb chop and cannon fillet, crushed Jersey Royal potatoes, peas, mint and cucumber. Close the show with desserts in the shape of Sauternes crème brûlée, Pedro Ximénez raisin and mandarin granita or a raspberry and white chocolate millefeuille.
There's a comprehensive wine list together with a lovely selection by the glass, as well as cocktails like Enchanted Fizz, Escubac, pastis, almond, apple, egg white and fairy dust.
