Review on Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel
Named after a nearby ‘black stream’, this converted Georgian residence â€" once a shooting lodge â€" has a mood of easy informality thanks to its caring owners, the Ronson family. The atmospheric bar is a popular haunt for locals and visitors alike, but it’s the food that grabs the headlines.
Most people opt for the casual surroundings of the lively bistro, with its colourful décor and original artwork on the walls. The menu offers a broad international choice, taking in crispy duck and watercress salad, seared cod on spiced vegetables with coconut and coriander curry sauce, and suprême of guinea fowl on bubble ‘n’ squeak with a game and wholegrain mustard casserole.
Grills are another option and there are also a few so-called ‘light dishes’ on offer, including shepherds pie, lamb and mint casserole and salmon fishcakes with chive sauce. Round things off with â€" say â€" pannetone bread-and-butter pudding or iced vanilla parfait with rhubarb and ginger compote.
