Review on The Annandale Arms Hotel
The Annandale Arms has been providing hospitality since 1760 and is now a popular stopover for travellers on their way to the Highlands (it's just a mile from junction 15 of the M74/M6). Personal family hospitality is one of its trademarks and food also comes high on the agenda.
Wild salmon, well-hung Buccleuch Heritage beef and organic lamb all find their way onto the daily restaurant menus, which might kick off with seared West Coast scallops or pan-fried pigeon breast on grilled Stornoway black pudding with a 'tattie' scone and sloe berry sauce.
Main courses are equally patriotic, taking in anything from roast loin of venison on braised red cabbage to fillet of trout coated in oatmeal. To finish, there are well-kept Scottish cheeses, plus a choice of homemade desserts. The wine list is a carefully chosen assortment of intriguing stuff from top-class producers around the globe.
