The koala bear logo is about as near to Oz as you are likely to get in this elegant contemporary venue housed in one of Jesmond's top hotels close to the Metro station.
The traditionally designed main dining area has a mood of old-style elegance, and there's a large forecourt split into two areas, which is popular for al fresco eating and drinking.
Despite the name, the food is a long way from 'down under'. Expect a range of familiar bistro/brasserie favourites including grilled ciabattas, pasta and burgers, alongside more serious stuff like duck and chicken liver terrine with apple and maple syrup preserve or char-grilled medallions of beef with sauté leeks and Stilton sauce.
Premium bottled beers and flashy cocktails are the drinks of choice in the bright shiny bar. The wine list offers plenty of choice at fair prices; most are served by the glass or 250ml pichet.
