Review on Paradiso
Located in an old print works down an alley, Paradiso is spread over three floors and remains one of Newcastle's best-loved destinations. Ownership changed in 2007 but many of the old familiar faces are still running the show.
During the day (from 11am to 6pm), the place has an informal café atmosphere, with people often choosing to take advantage of the seats out on the balcony. Exotic sandwiches, wraps, bruschetta, salads and hot dishes ranging from Ricotta and spinach tartlet with red onion marmalade to Italian sausage pie are the mainstays of the menu.
In the evening, the cooking is a touch more ambitious, offering Mediterranean restaurant-style dishes along the lines of wild mushroom and smoked cheese ravioli with sage, butter and Parmesan, monkfish risotto with roasted red peppers and saffron, and medallions of local organic beef with salsa verde, roasted baby potatoes and involtini of courgettes and aubergines. Note that Paradiso is now open on Sundays.
