Review on Wildebeest Arms
African tribal artefacts and other ethnic memorabilia add a touch of exoticism to this open-plan roadside pub/restaurant four miles south of Norwich. This Wildebeest is a thoroughly modern animal, with its elegant style, polished floors, blazing fire and raft of contemporary brasserie-style dishes.
The regularly changing menu might kick off with char-grilled smoked salmon, guacamole, salsa and coriander or pan-fried squid with tomato and caper salad, before pot-roast duck breast with lardons and redcurrant jus, sea bass with saffron risotto, cockles and brown shrimps or grilled ribeye steak with a Gruyère crust and 'house' chips. To finish, you might find glazed lemon tart with mango sorbet and lime syrup or prune and almond tart.
Adnams Southwold Bitter is on draught, and the Wildebeest has a cracking global wine list with some really tasty offerings especially from France and Australia. Many less familiar regions are well represented and mark-ups are low across the board.
